Privacy Policy
Soundcheck is an independent project operated by David Scott DiPerna. This policy explains what information Soundcheck collects, how it’s used, who it’s shared with, and the choices you have. It should be read alongside our Terms of Use.
1. What we collect
From Google, when you sign in
Your name, email address, and profile picture, along with sign-in tokens that confirm your identity. That’s all: we don’t request access to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, contacts, or anything else in your Google account, and we don’t use the sign-in tokens to access your Google account.
What you enter
Your answers in persona-building conversations, persona descriptions and any material you paste in, the messages and goals you test, the reactions Soundcheck generates for you, and any feedback you give on them.
Information about other people
Soundcheck works by having you describe people you know, so what you enter will usually include information about others. We use it only to provide Soundcheck to you. It stays private to your account, is never shared with other users or combined across accounts, and we don’t contact the people you describe. Please share only what you need, and see the Terms about content you have the right to share.
Usage records
When you signed up and when you use Soundcheck; how many personas, builds, tests and reactions you have; how many of your reactions you marked with a thumbs up or down; how many AI tokens each of your requests uses; and your account’s status, including whether you’ve accepted the current Terms and Privacy Policy. These are counts, dates and statuses, not what you wrote.
Technical information
Our hosting provider records standard request logs, such as IP address, browser type, and errors. Soundcheck uses cookies only to keep you signed in and to secure the sign-in process. We don’t use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies.
2. How we use it
- To provide Soundcheck — building personas and generating reactions.
- To apply usage limits and enforce our Terms.
- To email you about your account and the service, and to reply when you contact us. We don’t send marketing unless you separately opt in.
- To keep Soundcheck secure and prevent abuse.
- To see how each account uses Soundcheck. As the operator, we can see the usage records above for each account, alongside its name and email address, so we can spot problems, prevent abuse, and keep Soundcheck affordable to run.
- To understand, in aggregate, how Soundcheck is used so we can improve it.
That view doesn’t include your content. We don’t look at your personas, conversations, messages or reactions, except when needed to investigate abuse, to respond to a request from you, or to comply with the law.
We don’t sell your information, use it for advertising, or train AI models on it.
3. Google user data
We use the information Google provides only to sign you in, identify your account, and contact you as described above. We don’t share it, sell it, or use it for advertising. Soundcheck’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Who we share it with
Soundcheck relies on the service providers below. Each receives only what it needs to do its job for us, under its own terms. This means the content you enter is sent to these companies — worth knowing if you’re deciding whether to enter material from work.
| Provider | What it does | How it treats your data |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | The AI models that run persona-building conversations and generate reactions. Receives what you enter and relevant stored details. | Doesn’t train its models on this data by default. Deletes it within 30 days, except content its systems flag as violating its usage policy, which may be kept up to 2 years. |
| OpenAI | Converts details you share, and the messages you test, into numerical representations so stored details can be searched. | Doesn’t train its models on this data by default. Keeps it up to 30 days for abuse monitoring. |
| Cohere | Ranks stored details by relevance when you run a test. Receives the message and goal you test and candidate stored details. | We’ve opted out of Cohere using our data to train its models. Cohere deletes logged data after 30 days unless it’s flagged as violating Cohere’s terms or must be kept by law. |
| Neon | Hosts our database. | Stores the information described in section 1. |
| Vercel | Hosts the Soundcheck application. | Processes requests and keeps request logs. |
| Sign-in. | See section 3. |
We may also disclose information if required by law, or where necessary to protect the rights and safety of Soundcheck, its users, or others.
5. Where it’s stored
In the United States. If you use Soundcheck from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the U.S.
6. How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your account and the content in it from our database. A few things work differently:
- Copies held by our providers follow their own retention, described in section 4 — generally up to 30 days. Deleting your account doesn’t reach those copies sooner.
- Backups and logs. Deleted data may remain in database backups and hosting logs for a short period before it’s overwritten.
- Usage limits. So that deleting and re-creating an account can’t reset Soundcheck’s daily limits, we keep a record of your usage in your last 24 hours: what kind of action it was, when, and an ID for the build or test it was part of. It’s stored under a one-way hash of your Google account ID, not your name or email address, and none of your content is kept with it. If you sign up again with the same Google account within 24 hours, those entries move to your new account, count toward its limits, and are then kept like the rest of its usage records. Otherwise, once 24 hours have passed since an action, its entry no longer counts and is deleted when Soundcheck next clears out expired entries, which it does regularly while the app is in use.
- Accounts terminated for violating our Terms. We may keep that account’s data — without using it for anything else — for as long as the termination is in effect, and as needed to enforce our Terms and to establish or defend legal claims.
7. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account from your account settings, or by emailing us.
- Correct your information — you can edit personas directly in the app, or email us about anything else.
- Get a copy of your information by emailing us.
If you’re in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to our use of your information, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We process your information to provide Soundcheck to you under our Terms, for our legitimate interests in keeping it secure, preventing abuse, and running it affordably (including the per-account view described in section 2), and to comply with the law. We’ll respond to requests within one month.
8. Security
All connections to Soundcheck use HTTPS, every part of the app that handles your content requires you to sign in, and access to our database is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
9. Age
Soundcheck isn’t intended for anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
10. Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy if our practices change, and revise the version and date at the top. If a change is material, we’ll ask you to review and agree before you continue using Soundcheck.
